Bridgewater Systems/Pelephone

Pelephone was the first company to offer mobile services in Israel when it was first founded in 1986. Translating from Hebrew as the wonder-phone or magic phone, "Pelephone" became an early term used in the region for mobile phone. Today, Pelephone maintains its position as Israel's leading mobile operator and has over 2.5 million subscribers, both consumer and enterprise.

Pelephone made the decision two years ago to invest in new network infrastructure in order to enhance its service offering with a range of IP based applications, which will be launched in September 2008. Already offering a number of mobile data services, including Push-To-Talk, location-based services and mobile TV, Pelephone required the infrastructure to add innovative services and opted to build a 3G network based on UMTS/HSDPA technology.
Recognising the complexity of delivering such services and transitioning between networks, Pelephone needed to upgrade its current AAA (authentication, authorisation and accounting) technology with a carrier-grade system that could be relied upon to deliver a high number of IP services and provide improved support for data roaming.

Pelephone selected Bridgewater Systems to support its growing data subscriber base, in a multi-network environment, based on its strong reputation and extensive experience in supporting similar efforts for global service providers. The Bridgewater network access control and subscriber management solution offered Pelephone a future-proof, vendor- and network-neutral access control platform that could easily control subscriber access to advanced services on both its legacy and new networks.

A system that would enable efficient data roaming was a key prerequisite for Pelephone. Bridgewater Systems' experience in supporting data roaming for tier 1 operators around the globe, including Pelephone's key roaming partner Verizon Wireless, made Bridgewater the clear vendor of choice. The existing relationship meant Pelephone's data roaming would be managed over common infrastructure, ensuring tight integration, accurate roaming records and low revenue leakage.

The Bridgewater solution also allowed Pelephone to assign complex business rules to provide a wide range of service packages for both its consumer and enterprise subscribers, providing additional value to their customer base by meeting their specific needs.
