Swisscom launches new fixed line-only brand for “digitally savvy” customers

Swisscom is targeting young, digitally savvy urban customers with a new brand that offers fixed line-only internet, IPTV and telephony services. 

Wingo, which the operator said would offer “individualised products stripped down to meet basic needs”, is only available in areas where customers have access to an FTTH network.

A 250 MBps internet service, which comes with a Wi-Fi router box, is being offered for CHF75 (€72) per month, with a one-off fee of CHF58 (€56).

An IPTV service featuring 150 channels is available for a further CHF14 per month plus a one-off fee of CHF29.

A VoIP service is being offered with calls costing CHF0.05 per minute to other fixed lines and CHF0.3 to mobiles.

In a bid to keep overheads low, customer care and ordering services are only available online. There are no retail outlets and no call centres.

In a major departure to the rest of the industry, a mobile service is not part of the offering.

Last year, mobile helped to push sales of bundled services up 24 percent at Swisscom, which in turn helped the operator record an overall rise in revenues.

Marc Werner, Head of Swisscom Residential Customers, commented: “Wingo will allow us to specifically target digitally savvy, urban customers that Swisscom has so far been unable to reach effectively.

“We will acquire new customers with a reduced service, simplified offerings and low prices.”

Last week, KPN announced it was closing its youth-focused mobile brand.
