European Communications is delighted to announce a new award for the telecoms industry in Europe – the CMO of the Year – which is designed to recognise the growing importance of top marketing executives at operators across the continent.

As competition between operators and from increasing numbers of external players increases, the role of the CMO has never been more important.

But the role is changing – it is no longer sufficient to bribe customers to stay with free handsets or to tweak a tariff plan. CMOs are increasingly asked to do more.

As one HR executive told European Communications: “We expect more from marketing today than yesterday.”

In short, as operators try to evolve their businesses to become digital and embrace new models such as IPTV, cloud, M2M and m-payments, marketing is driving company strategy.

As the role of the CMO evolves, European Communications and award sponsor Amdocs are looking to find the one executive who is leading the industry.

The award involves a two-step process. Below, we are giving you the chance to vote for the CMO you think deserves the award.

Taking these votes into account, an independent judging panel will convene to draw up a shortlist and a winner. The judging panel includes:

  • Peter Abraham, Executive VP, Econsulting.com
  • Sarah Bentley, Managing Director of Accenture Digital
  • Andrew Davidson, Head of Marketing, Network, Telecoms & Security at Fujitsu
  • Marc Smith, Group Editor, European Communications and Mobile Europe
  • Caroline Taylor, CMO for IBM Europe

The award will be presented at a special dinner for nominated CMOs in October in London.

Interviews with the winner and shortlisted candidates will feature in the Q4 issue of European Communications and on www.eurocomms.com
