Telekom Austria Group has announced a partnership with music company The Box Plus Network.

UK-based The Box Plus Network broadcasts eight TV channels, including Smash Hits, Kiss, Magic and Kerrang!, throughout the UK, Europe and Africa.

It claims to have had 15.2 million monthly average viewers in the UK last year.

Five of the channels will be included in Telekom Austria’s IPTV offering, starting with Mobiltel in Bulgaria and Vip in the Republic of Macedonia.

Customers in Croatia and Austria will be next in line to get the service.

The operator has 250,000 IPTV customers in its home market.

Last month, MTV announced it was launching an app-based service to enable customers access its content with Telefónica in Germany, Sunrise in Switzerland and Telekom Romania in Romania.

Further, Telekom Austria will distribute the channels across its geographical footprint via satellite to its direct2home platform, which it wholesales to broadcasters.

The operator said it acts as a direct link to 75 million households in the CEE region, which do not have access to traditional telecoms infrastructure.

According to Stefan Amon, Telekom Austria Group’s Director Wholesale, The Box Plus Network partnership marks “the beginning of a number of new partnerships within the media and content industry”.

He said: “This partnership will help us to efficiently use our own infrastructure thanks to the Group’s existing backbone network as well as our teleport Aflenz.

“It also further strengthens Telekom Austria Group Wholesale as a reliable technical distribution partner within the industry, which continues to deliver high quality and state-of-the-art technical services”.
