Telekom Austria Group has signed a content and distribution deal with Pay TV channel CLASSICA.

Germany-based CLASSICA shows operas, concerts, ballets and documentaries in 30 countries and on 45 Pay TV platforms. It has a worldwide audience of 6.5 million subscribers.

The channel is now available at TAG’s Bulgarian subsidiary Mobiltel, at its Blizzoo/Vip opco in the Republic of Macedonia and in its home market via A1 IPTV.

A launch at Vipnet in Croatia is planned for the second half of 2015, the operator said.

Further, TAG is distributing CLASSICA to a number of its wholesale broadcast clients via its satellite-based direct2home platform.

The deal is similar to one the operator signed last month with UK-based music company The Box Plus Network.

Stefan Amon, Director Wholesale Telekom Austria Group, commented: “With the CLASSICA partnership, we introduce a premium thematic channel provider into our core territories with high-quality classical music content, already proven worldwide.

“We are excited that through Telekom Austria Group’s “direct2home” technical broadcast services we are able to bring CLASSICA not only to the Pay TV operations of the Group but can also make them available via simulcrypting to other DTH operators on Eutelsat 16A, as well as the numerous cable and IPTV players via our contribution services.”

The deal is one of several that European operators have signed with TV companies in the past few weeks.

O2 is to premiere 10 shows from UK broadcaster Channel 4 as part of a new partnership, while Orange has signed a deal with Sony to show movies and TV shows in France.
