O2-owned UK mobile advertising venture Weve has appointed former sales head Nigel Clarkson as its new Managing Director.

Clarkson, who formerly served as Weve’s Commercial Director, takes up his new role with immediate effect.

He will report to O2 Commerce Managing Director Robert Franks.

Clarkson faces the task of navigating Weve as it becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of O2. The business was acquired by Telefónica’s UK business last month.

This includes leading the restructuring of the company as it turns its focus to mobile advertising under O2.

Clarkson said: “It is a hugely exciting time for Weve – with one agile and ambitious owner, we can now offer business customers the benefit of greater scale, with over 30 million opt-ins across all of O2’s digital disciplines.

“Weve has been a rewarding and challenging experience for all who shared the last three years together.

“We started from scratch and have succeeded in building one of the UK’s leading digital media businesses, covering areas as diverse as mobile marketing, advertising, data, payments, loyalty, and trialling beacon technology.

“While the original blueprint for Weve has now changed, the vision of all the things that could and should be possible through mobile advertising will be accelerated by this deal.”

O2 Commerce’s Franks added: “Weve has built a highly successful and innovative mobile advertising business under Nigel’s leadership as Commercial Director.

“We see huge potential to accelerate the growth of Weve’s business as part of O2’s Digital Commerce portfolio.”
