Liberty Global has teamed up with investment firm TPG Growth to launch a global TV production and distribution studio.
The Virgin Media owner has taken a minority stake in the new business, called Platform One Media, which will be funded by TPG via Evolution Media, an investment partnership it has with CAA and Participant Media.
Katie O'Connell Marsh (pictured above) has been appointed Chief Executive of the new venture, which will curate, develop, produce, and distribute scripted programming around the world.
O'Connell Marsh’s credits include Netflix series Narcos and comedy series Arrested Development.
The former Gaumont Television CEO said: "The explosion of original content globally is creating an opportunity for new, innovative, and diverse ways to engage audiences beyond the series itself.
"With Platform One Media, and our partners TPG Growth and Liberty Global, we are perfectly positioned to develop and distribute compelling narratives that are artistic, meaningful and addictive by working closely with innovative, inspiring talent to bring to life their creative visions."
Platform One Media adds to Liberty Global’s roster of content businesses.
The operator has stakes in production and distribution company All3Media, which it commissioned to make four drama series last year, and music channel Xite.
Bruce Mann, Chief Programming Officer at Liberty Global, said: "[Platform One Media] gives us the opportunity to work with world-class talent creating high-quality scripted programming which could potentially feature on Liberty Global's pay-TV platforms in Europe.”
Libery Global also owns Belgium’s Telenet, Germany’s Unitymedia and the UPC brand across seven European countries.
